Christ The Apple Tree

“As the apple tree among the trees of the wood, so is my beloved among the sons. I sat down under his shadow with great delight, and his fruit was sweet to my taste.” Song of Solomon 2:3

The Shulamite compared her shepherd-lover to an apple tree among wood trees because, for her, there was none that could equal her beloved. Like the Shulamite, believers have a shepherd-lover as well. His name is Jesus Christ! Sometimes we forget how Christ is like an apple tree in a world of wooden gods. Let us reflect on two aspects of the uniqueness of Christ among the gods of this world: the rest we find in His grace, and His sweet fruit.
