Boasting Only in the Cross PDF Print E-mail
Written by Mitch S.

To a believer, the cross of Christ is a symbol of the great love, commitment, and sacrifice it took to bear our sins. In times of weakness the cross can be used as a comfort, and in times of strength it can be used as a firm foundation on which to stand. It is easy then to see why Christians often boast in the cross. However, in many instances we, as believers don't boast in the cross as we boast in our own accomplishments, find comfort in worldly things, and use our own knowledge as a foundation. But, when we examine the value of the cross in comparison to these comforts or foundations, we can truly see the supreme value that is found in the cross. Such a value makes our possessions or education seem quite insignificant. The apostle Paul saw this supreme value in the cross and lived his life to boast exclusively in it. In his letter to the Galatians we read, “But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.” (Gal. 6:14)

Battling the Flesh PDF Print E-mail
Written by Trey H.

Do you struggle with your flesh? Unfortunately, I have suffered many failures in life because my flesh got the best of me. Thankfully we have a wonderful, merciful Savior who will never fail, even though we do. He has promised that, “if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 Jn. 1:9-10). Praise the Lord for His help in our lives and His forgiveness of our sins!

The Ants vs. The Birds
Two creatures that are known for their obsessive collecting habits are birds and ants. As an ant takes time to store food up for the winter, a bird collects just about anything for its nest as well as searching for its food for the day. Both creatures search for and fulfill their needs, yet both creatures are very different in their collecting habits, and both have a specific application to us as we live day to day.

Unity PDF Print E-mail
Written by Nathan G.

Why is it that some people just don’t seem to be able to get along? I’ve asked this question so many times myself and heard countless others ask it too. As we look around we see a distinct lack of unity in our world. People disagree daily on so many things, often small and insignificant, but frequently none the less.

I asked myself, ‘Why is it that so often I disagree with others?’ ‘Is it for good reasons or merely because they frustrate me?’ ‘And why is it that so often the people I disagree with most are the ones I should get on with – my family, my friends, other believers?’ And more importantly: ‘Does it even matter if I don’t get along with them all the time?’

The Lord's Supper - Understanding It PDF Print E-mail
Written by Dennis L.

On the night in which the Lord Jesus was betrayed and crucified, He gave His disciples a simple command. He requested that they remember Him after His departure “from this world to the Father” (John 13:1). The details are given in each of the first three Gospels (Matthew 26:26-20; Mark 14:22-25; Luke 22:14-20) and are further expanded on in 1 Corinthians 11:20-34. The early church, in obedience, made the Lord’s Supper a central part of their gatherings (Acts 2:42). They understood that the Lord meant for this remembrance to be given a place of priority, and while the Lord did not specifically mandate its frequency, they remembered Him on the first day of every week (Acts 20:7).
